Benefits of Cosmetic Dentistry In Los Angeles; Bite Dysfunction Part 1

Cosmetic Dentistry is more than just creating a pretty smile. Actually, It's MUCH more! Most often cosmetic dentistry is about restoring the form, function, and health of the mouth. An Accredited Cosmetic Dentist is your wisest choice for having form and function restored in the the most aesthetically pleasing way.

Nature has an ingenious plan for the way that your bite functions. As a dentist it is my job to identify and correct problems with not only individual teeth but also with how the teeth, jaws, and muscles operate together as a unit. To achieve stablilty, health, and comfort, all of these components must operate in harmony.

Your teeth, gums, bone, ligaments, and muscles are all interrelated and should work together without conflict. When the lower jaw is seated in its socket and the muscles are relaxed, it is at its most stable position. In this position, all of your teeth should touch.

How do you know you have a problem? One or a combination of the following symptoms may indicate you have bite dysfunction.

  • Cracked or broken teeth
  • Worn teeth
  • Grinding
  • Receding gums
  • Sore or stiff jaw muscles
  • Facial pain
  • Pain while chewing
  • Loose teeth
  • Clicking or popping in the jaw
  • Uncomfortable bite

Ignoring these warnings signs may lead to irreversible damage to your teeth, gums, and bone. By performing a proper analysis of your bite an accredited cosmetic dentist can devise a plan that will minimize or prevent most of these problems. Our goal is to create a healthy mouth and a stable bite that will last you a lifetime. If you have any questions about your bite please contact Dr. Bernie Villadiego at Aesthetic Smile Designs, 20933 Devonshire St. Suite 103, Chatsworth CA 818-341-1345

5 Great Reasons to Floss

Written by // Aesthetic Smile Designs

Many people don’t realize the importance of flossing for oral health as well as overall health. A large group of people don’t like to take the extra time it takes to give the space between your teeth the extra love and care they deserve. Everyone needs to realize that your dental health is a direct reflection of the health of the rest of your body. Most dental plaque can be removed with proper brushing, but the plaque left behind can be detrimental to your health. There are over 500 different types of bacteria and millions of other germs found in your common plaque. These germs and bacteria can be very harmful to both your teeth and gums if not removed.

5 Reasons to Floss:

  1. Protect your teeth from cavities and tooth decay.
  2. Gum disease. Gingivitis is directly caused when plaque accumulates around and in between your teeth. Flossing is vital to help remove this plaque and keep your mouth clean and healthy.
  3. Nobody likes bad breath. Flossing thoroughly each day will help prevent gum disease and tooth decay which can cause halitosis.
  4. Harmful bacteria that builds up from failing to floss can enter your body and effect vital organs like your heart. Flossing helps eliminate these harmful bacterium from entering your body and blood stream.
  5. Flossing helps to prevent tartar build up. Tartar is dental plaque that can only be removed by a dental professional.

Neglecting your oral health can have a negative effect on your body’s overall health and well being. Be proactive and take a few extra minutes each day to floss…your body will thank you.

It’s Patient Appreciation Day……Say Cheese!

You may know that Dr. Bernie Villadiego spends countless hours attending lectures and seminars to be able to provide the newest and most innovative procedures for his patients. He researches and applies advanced techniques for his veneer, crown and smile reconstruction patients creating the most beautiful, natural smiles imaginable. But did you know that his hobby is photography? Dr. Bernie invests long hours perfecting his photography skills. He has used these skills to build and create his patient portfolio which displays his cosmetic creativity in dentistry. You can appreciate many of these photos on the walls throughout his practice as well as on the website.

November 12, 2011 was Patient Appreciation Day at Aesthetic Smile Design! Patients were invited to participate in a professional photo shoot…..photography provided by our own in-house photographer, Dr. Bernie. Our patients enjoyed baked goods, gourmet cheeses, fruit, and homemade hot apple cider while mingling with staff, Dr. Bernie’s wife Mardie and other patients. Each family posed with a variety of colored back drops and in varied configurations.

We enjoyed spending the day with our patients. Attending were young families taking “baby’s first picture”, large families with children Dr. Bernie has watched grow up, grandparents and their children and grandchildren, singles, couples…..the list was long. The grins photographed that day ranged from toothless kids wanting nothing but their two front teeth for Christmas to fabulous smile makeovers that had been performed by Dr. Bernie.

At Aesthetic Smile Design we strive to give our patients a comfortable, pleasurable experience, with the most modern treatments and impeccable service. It is always our hope that our patients know just how much we appreciate them.

How Old Do You Think I Am?

Written by // Aesthetic Smile Designs

So…..how old do you think I am? That can be a scary question. How many times have you been presented with that question and in that split second had several thoughts race through your mind such as” Hmmm, I know she can’t be too old she has small children” or, “Gosh he is in such good physical shape he has to be fairly young”. Yet another,” I think she said she graduated high school the same year I did”. You quickly try to asses this question to come up with an answer that won’t offend the asker. The truth is you just can’t tell.

There are a few physical “age indicators” that are outwardly visible. Posture, hair, and skin are amongst the more common. Someone that stands tall and walks with a smooth stride would indicate a healthy skeletal system with strong supportive muscles. Hair with luster and little to no gray suggests youth. And, of course we all associate wrinkled skin with old age. What about teeth? Baby teeth start appearing at approximately 4 months old. In elementary school we start losing our baby teeth to make room for our permanent teeth. By our early teens all of our permanent teeth have presented themselves and for some braces are applied. At this time in our lives our permanent teeth are usually healthy, strong and pearly white.

Things that make us happy are rewarded with smiles. When we are very young we smile freely and with confidence. As we progress into our teens we use our smile to communicate…perhaps to flirt. As we advance into adulthood our smiles are used to dazzle on interviews or to show confidence in our abilities. As parents we use our smile to show love, approval and pride towards our children. The power of the smile is unequivocally one of our most powerful forms of communication. What does your smile say?

Take a few minutes to look at yourself in the mirror. If you have healthy gums with pearly white teeth, then you have a youthful looking mouth. But if you look in the mirror and see gum recession, flat or worn down teeth, teeth that are grey or dark in color then your smile may be aging you beyond your years. At Aesthetic Smile Design Dr. Bernie Villadiego can change your smile from old and dreary to fabulous and youthful! There are several options for improving one’s smile at any age. Veneers, crowns, implants, amalgam filling removal, teeth whitening…..are only a few of the options available. Call Dr. Bernie now if you would like to take a step towards improving your smile!
